Janmashtami is one of the most divine festivals for Hindus. We celebrate this day every year as the birth of Lord Krishna. As per the lunisolar Hindu calendar, Krishna Janmashtami falls in late August, on the dark fortnight of Bhadrapada month. Popular as ‘Bal Gopal,’ Krishna was born in a dark and gloomy prison in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.

The Mythological Tale Of Lord Krishna’s Birth

Kansa was a malevolent King, who got to know that the eighth child of his sister will kill him. And that the child will be of Devaki and Vasudeva. Aiming to prevent this from occurring, Kansa put both his sister and her husband in jail in Mathura. While they were in prison, Kansa would kill every child Devaki gave birth to. According to the prophecy, Krishna was the eighth child of Devaki.

Just when little Krishan was born, all prison doors got opened mystically and the guards were nowhere visible. Taking advantage of this, Vasudeva comes out of the prison and carries the newborn to the village of Vrindavan. Further, a couple by the name of Nanda and Yashoda adopts this baby and becomes his foster parents. Ever since then, Krishna spent his entire childhood in Vrindavan.

But soon, he becomes the king of his city and it was time to end the cruel rule of Kansa. Devotees believe that Krishna is the most powerful incarnation of Vishnu.
